Kumarakom, the exclusive backwater destination sited on the banks of the Vembanad lake is considered the gateway to the backwaters of Kuttanad. The concept of this design proposal has been carefully crafted to restore the basic values, identity and cultural heritage continued from undefined past, with an aim of achieving environmental harmony and ecological balance. The design solution reflects conscious efforts to retain the native characters of the site by restoring the paddy fields and placing the built form within. The built forms are developed based on the traditional Kerala shastras. The 65 room design proposal has primarily 4 types of guest rooms and 14 of these feature express checkin directly by boat. The rooms are classified as Deluxe rooms, Courtyard villas, Pool villas and the Presidential / Spa pool villas. All thatched roof villas would be cladded with the finest natural wood finishes on the exteriors and floors and are to be appointed in classic Kerala Style. Total land area would be 42 acres and stage one would be 17 acres.
